Hey Kurt,

I've had a project in the works for a few years that is a blend of Kimini and Midlana and have come to the rear suspension design. After looking at Midlanas upper and lower control arms, I can't help wondering if the suspension binds due to the fact that the upper arm's pickup points are in the same plane, but the lower is more like a trailing arm...with that combo I picture the bottom of the upright tipping forward in compression (due to the trailing arm arc), but since the upper arm is rigid it would bind?? Or is it just taken care of with deflection in the upper bushing?

I'm asking because for packaging I need to do the opposite (the lower a arm is an x and the upper would be trailing arm...

No binding, because the upright is constrained in only one axis. The bottom suspension links control toe, so yes, the upright will toe in slightly under compression. The upper links however, are either spherical bearings or the stock Miata rubber block.
