Alternator Wiring

Postby Midlana1 » 01 Jan 2015, 17:17

Building a car from scratch sometimes means using an alternator that didn't come with the donor engine. It turns out that there's nothing magical about alternators and even if the OEM unit is controlled by the ECU, it doesn't need to be in order to run on its own. Here's a very thorough and useful site on how alternators work and how to interface to them, http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Wiring/Part2/. If your OEM alternator won't work, I recommend choosing one that's widely available in your area, for something really common in case you get suck far from home.
