Swindon EV powertrain in development

With batteries slowly becoming "real", it's only a matter of time before someone wants to build an electric Midlana. More power to them!

Swindon EV powertrain in development

Post by Midlana1 » 19 Oct 2019, 11:51

107 hp and 150 lbs, but doesn't exist yet. Hopefully it becomes reality, maybe not by June 2020 as they say, but might be something to keep an eye on. https://swindonpowertrain.com/uk/news.aspx

If they come out with one at least twice as powerful, that could be interesting. The good news is that it's the entire powertrain (minus batteries of course), but my concern is that it won't be competitive pricewise with a gas engine, but who knows.

I suspect that due to the limited market, it's probably going to be expensive enough that other options should be considered. Heck, used Tesla drivetrains are already being sold. Check out the bits and bobs sold by this place, which is disturbingly close to where I live... https://evwest.com/catalog/

They offer a complete Tesla drivetrain (everything but batteries) for $12K, which is a lot, but 400kw works out to >500 hp... sheez. It does show though how a finished car can end up being north of $30K, which for what it is, requires some contemplation...
