Trackdays in an 'open wheel' car

Postby oltmann » 01 May 2014, 17:01

Are there any issues with track organizations allowing a car without fenders on track? I imagine it could vary from one sanctioning body to another.

Is there any specific organization or group that is friendlier than others?

I see in Kurt's trackday video that there were all sorts of cars on track together. Who organized/sanctioned that event?

The rules vary widely - it all depends upon the group that you run with. I ran with the Alfa Club of SoCal, but that's obviously local. That said, as long as they'd let a formula Ford type car run I don't see why they wouldn't allow anything else without fenders. There are many organizations which rent tracks and that's the end of it; as long as you have the appropriate safety gear, they're happy to take your money. The event I ran last was run by "Speed Ventures."

In the UK trackday cars need to be road legal, which means covered wheels, that said there are sessions available for open wheeled cars but the two don't tend to get mixed
