Typos, goofs and notes

Post by Midlana1 » 11 Oct 2017, 06:30

Page 175:
"I would angle the tab upward about 15 degrees or so", should read "about 8 degrees."

Page 192:
Rear toe link center-to-center distance was omitted and should be listed as 19.71".

Page 205:
Rocker arm position should be "10.3 inches", which is more clearly stated in the second edition.

Book Clarification...

Post by steveo » 07 May 2018, 20:02

Easy one...

On Page 205 of the Good Book, under the "Rocker Arm Mounts" section it says "The pivot is located 16" above the base of the chassis ..".

I am assuming that means 16" above the TOP of the base chassis, i.e. if the chassis is sitting on the table then 17.5" above the plane of the table assuming 1.5" tuning has been used.

Can someone confirm that?

Per Figure 20.7, the forward top end of the square 1.5" side rail (tube 107) is 14" above the build table. The aft end of tube 107 is 17.5", see Figure 19.14. The pivot point is roughly a third of the way back, so 1/3 * (17.5 - 14) = 1.2". 14 + 1.2 = 15.2". The actual pivot point is roughly an inch higher, so it's in the ballpark, but still a rough guess. I'll confirm what it is on the car tonight.

16.0" in my "book" CAD model. Back in the "errata" thread I asked the same question, although I already ran with the 16.0" assumed from the datum, or underside of the chassis; it was the lateral 8.5" that should read 10.3"

I confirmed that it's 16" from the build table to the pivot center.

On page 131 The GO start to cut tube 300, and next tube is 300L and 300R.
But on page 136 figure 19.7 there is no 300L and 300R tubes.

The only tubes it can be is 303L and 303R, is this correct?

You're right; there is only one lateral tube that is numbered 300. The text should have said what you already guessed, 303L and 303R.
