Suspension Parts List - Everything you need for a Midlana Suspension

Postby steveo » 15 Feb 2017, 09:38

The lists/spreadsheets below help you identify most of the parts you need for your suspension.

Do remember that this is not a blind shopping list. You will need to factor in your choices and personalizations! Think of it as a starting point that you must apply your brain too!

Excel version. Has two variations one with the standard 1/2" threads and one with beefed up 5/8" threads.

The other thing to think about is where to get this stuff: (Note: This is not an endorsement or statement of quality or service. It's merely a list! there are plenty of other options to purchase from!

http://www.mcgillmotorsport.com/ Very motor sport focused. Good range but missing a few bits from your list so you will need to look elsewhere.
http://midwestcontrol.com/ Awesome list of threaded bungs/inserts second to no-one else that I saw in my research. Their "TurboSearch" feature is the best way to find stuff!
http://www.qa1.net/rod-ends-and-related Excellent range of high and very high quality products.
http://www.aurorabearing.com/index.html Great range of higher end stuff, with appropriately eye watering prices if you go OTT!
http://www.fkrodends.com/products2009.html Another good range of quality products
https://steinjager.com/shop/index.php?route=product/search&search=&tierOne=Universal I wanted to include cross-references to their range as it is very extensive, but the web site is hard to use and it's very difficult to work out which range to buy. If they sort that out, or you have the patience to work it out, another good source.

Thanks for the spreadsheets Steveo. Much appreciated.

FWIW Steinjager and Midwest Control are "sister companies". What that means is that Steinjager gets all their rod ends, weld bungs etc from Midwest Controls. If you find what you want on Midwest Controls you can use their part number to search on the Steinjager site and it will get you pretty close 9 times out of 10.

For example:
A 5/8-18 Rod End is MXM-10 on Midwest Control.
If you search Steinjager for MXM-10 it brings up a pretty big list, but since you know you're looking for a 5/8 Rod end you click on the rod end link and it takes you right to the correct part.
Steinjager adds in their descriptions common parts that are used along with what you are looking at. That is why if you search for MXM-10 it brings up weld bungs for example. It can be useful but can also be a headache.

Sometimes Midwest Controls has a cheaper price than Steinjager, sometimes they don't.

I am in the middle of taking your spreadsheet and getting all the Steinjager part numbers into it to help out but I am trying to double check things as I go along too just to make sure neither of us made a mistake.

That would be great! There's so many dependencies and choices that it's really hard to ensure you have it 100% right. I ordered all my parts from McGill and MWC from it so I'll soon have a fairly hardnosed test for that!

What I intend to do at some point (when I get back from my latest European trip in the middle of March) is to make it a more "intelligent" spreadsheet so you can enter your choices and it will produce a shopping list for you, so if you want the spherical bearing or not, inboard vs outboard, 1/2" joints vs 5/8" joints etc. etc.

That's what I am trying to do as well. Break up everything into a few groups of Front Inboard, Front Outboard, Rear, then a Miscellaneous for things like the steering shaft and other odds and ends I can come across.
