NEW part availability; Miata Front Upper ball-joint

Postby milnet » 06 Jan 2015, 16:00

I was looking to NASCAR front upper control arms for inspiration and I noticed their use of Moog "Problem Solver" line of parts. (These also have the added benefit of having zerk fittings where the OEM units do not.) If its good enough for the roundy-roundy guys it's gotta be strong enough for my needs. Moog part number K500210 is a replacement upper ball-joint which is something not available from the dealer (you have to get the entire arm) nor is it made by any other vendor in the after-market. OEM supplier has not been found to the best of my knowledge.

Actually there is... Jack at Kinetic discovered an upper ball joint that fits the Miata upright. I don't have the book in front of me but I list the number, though having multiple parts is always a good thing.

[Edit] It's this one, Moog ES2763R.

So is that problem solver ball joint the same as a Miata upper ball joint, but without the upper A arm attached (same shaft size and taper? If so excellent find!

Exactly sir. They are cheap enough where stocking up is a non-issue. Thanks for the suggestion, if it works out I'll order a couple of extra to mothball.

This is the cup type not thread-on type. More like the OEM Miata arm - Image

Seen them in the Summit catalogue...

How do they attach to the arm? Thread?
