Shocks and Springs

Postby bgkast » 19 Sep 2013, 20:56

From the parts and suppliers thread it looks like the QA1 DDR7855/DD601 coil overs were used on all 4 corners of the prototype. Here are the specs:

Compressed Height: 12 1/2"
Extended Height: 18 3/4"
Recommended Ride Height: 15 1/4" - 15 3/4"
Spring Length: 14"

The parts thread also says that the slightly shorter DDR5855/DD501 may also work. Was this ever confirmed?

What springs were used on the prototype, and what are the specs?

Thanks!

Edit: Are the same shocks reccomended for a non-pushrod front suspension?

I know this will all be in the book, but I'm trying to finish up research on my major componants so when the book arrives I can just BUILD!

It's not so much that I won't say; it's just that I don't have the manuscript in front of me when I remember your question. They're QA-1 double-adjustable shocks which, extended, are about 17" long. At the front though, the size you need will depend if you're going inboard or outboard for shock placement.

Thanks, I'm still debating inboard vs outboard. Will the measurements for both be in the book? The QA1s seem to be the best value in shocks that I have been able to find.

Im going to go outboard as I believe you did. Can you post up which shocks you ended up going with?

I'm still holding off on shocks so that they will still have a valid warranty by the time my car is on the road. I'm leaning towards using these:

I just got some Advance Racing Shocks for free, so I will be using them for at least mock up and testing. They are 19.5" extended, which seems to be a common the next size up from the 18.75" shocks called for.
