A dyno session like that always brings home just how much energy is involved at WOT doesn’t it.

Just for balance, you can get roller dynos that are capable of holding a set speed at varying loads, the place I’ve taken all my cars for mapping has had one a long time.

I bet you are delighted with those results though Kurt. Finding that the timing was wrong as well as it not being set to use variable cam timing tends to support the thought that the original tuner had no fecking idea. I suspect you can probably lay the blame for the blowup in his court as well, not that you’d ever be able to prove anything of course. Sadly, there are loads of folk who buy a dyno and a laptop then think they can tune an engine. Even more sadly, they then manage to convince paying customers of the same and manage to build an unwarranted reputation.

Rolling road dynos with the ability to hold a set speed are a lot more rare here than they are there (though it's beginning to change). Most places in the US are set up to do WOT dyno runs and not tuning on the dyno. Mostly stems from the dyno being used to tune WOT only for drag racers. They don't (mostly) spend much time on tuning driveablilty, plus a dyno with the ability to do that is significantly more expensive. Serious road racers here tend to use engine dynos.
